PROJECT:

PARTICIPATH: PARTICIPATORY APPROACHES FOR RESPONSIBLE TRANSLATIONAL INNOVATION AND CO‑CREATION IN BIOMEDICAL PATHWAYS.

PROGRAMME:

HORIZON EUROPE- CASCADE FUNDING. REINFOCING-I4_60.

CALL TOPIC:

REINFORCING – 6TH OPEN CALL ON RESPONSIBLE INNOVATION (INCUBATOR CALL)

KEY WORDS:

Open Responsible Research and Investigation
Biomedical Research and Innovation
Responsible knowledge valorisation in innovation processes

OBJECTIVES:

  • Ensure that biomedical innovations emerging from FFIS IMIB’s research portfolio respond to the experiences, priorities, and expectations of diverse societal actors, reducing ethical and social misalignments and increasing legitimacy and acceptance.
  • Systematise the responsible innovation process within FFIS IMIB’s Innovation Unit.
  • Implement and formally integrate the responsible innovation process into FFIS IMIB’s Innovation Unit workflow.
  • Promote awareness and capacity building among researchers for responsible knowledge valorisation.

ACTIVITIES:

The project will pilot a responsible innovation management process at FFIS-IMIB, focused on aligning biomedical solutions with societal needs, legitimising innovation outcomes, and avoiding ethical or social mismatches. It will design, test and validate a Blueprint for responsible knowledge valorisation, grounded in co-creation with relevant societal actors. This Blueprint will support actions such as development of new marketable healthcare products or devices, patent registration, licensing, clinical implementation, spin-off creation, and knowledge transfer to the productive sector.

Within the Blueprint, PARTICIPATH will develop a set of indicators to monitor the adoption of ORRI principles in knowledge valorisation processes. This will enable to track progress, report on societal impact, and meet the requirements of the national evaluation framework with greater precision and transparency. In addition, PARTICIPATH will design inclusive participation strategies, ensuring a balanced representation of diverse citizen profiles and reducing communication barriers through the preparation of accessible, attractive, and easy to understand materials.

PARTICIPATH will lay the groundwork for extending the Blueprint to upstream research processes in a later phase. In parallel, the project will deliver targeted training for researchers and staff, strengthening their capacity to engage in knowledge valorisation with a societal focus and improving their skills in scientific communication aimed at non-expert audiences.
